Inscription of Marriage
 
 


If you are Guatemalan and wish to register your marriage in the Civil Registry of Guatemala, and you live abroad of the territory, just find out the closest Consulate of Guatemala in your present city of residence.

Following requirements need to be fulfilled:

* Both spouses must appear at the Consulate or at least the attendance of one of them is also admitted.

* Original Guatemalan nationality.

* Marriage certificate of the Civil Registry in where the event was registered.

* Initially marriage certificates.

* Original of identity cards of both spouses (passports or Certificates of residence).

* Original Certificate of Birth for both spouses (either of one is a foreign or both are Guatemalan nationality). Two photocopies for every single document are necessary.

Please, notice that the certificate of birth should have been extended not longer than 3 months before it will be submitted for the inscription of Marriage.

* Passport .  

* Original Residence Certificate for both spouses.

* Original Marriage certificate extended by the authority where the marriage took place. One photocopy for all above mentioned documents.

* Name of the wife’s grandparents:

* Names of the husband’s grandparents:

* Address and telephone number


These documents must be sent by mail to the Consular Section in order to advance the proceeding.

Procedure (Austria)
The pair must make an appointment with the Consular Section to read and sign the act.

Procedure (Guatemala)

The Embassy sends the Inscription of Marriage to Guatemala. One certified photocopy of the original document is given to the applicants. In Guatemala one relative should go to the Consular Section of the Ministry for International Affairs and ask for a number. This number must be present to the Civilian Registry in order to obtain the consular Inscription of the Marriage.
